SBI Holdings and GMO Internet will use a mining center in Texas

Rockdale, Texas, continues to attract miners – Japanese holdings SBI Holdings and GMO Internet plan to use the largest data center in this city.

Japanese companies will launch mining activities at the site, which is being built by the German company Northern Bitcoin AG and Whinstone. Already in the 1st quarter of 2020, a mining farm with a capacity of 300 MW will be launched, and by the end of this year the capacity will be increased to 1 GW.

Rockdale attracts miners due to cheap electricity. In Texas, already 20% of energy is generated from wind farms, and this figure for the first time in history exceeded the percentage of generation from coal-fired power plants.

In November 2019, Bitmain launched the mining center in Rockdale. At the same time, although the Bitmain farm covers much larger areas than the Northern Bitcoin AG site, its capacity is only 50 MW. On the Bitmain farm, 15,000 ASIC miners were installed on the opening day.
