Users who have been banned on Facebook will most likely not be able to use Libra

On the second day of the congressional hearing on the planned Facebook cryptocurrency, the question arose whether people banned on Facebook could use Libra. David Marcus, head of Calibra, gave the committee a cool answer.

Representative Sean Duffy (R-WI) pressured David Marcus from Facebook on the second day of the Libra congressional hearing. Marcus, the head of Libra’s wallet called Caliber, was asked if people who are currently denied access to Facebook can use the cryptocurrency of the social networking giant.

“Can people who are denied access to Facebook, such as Milo Jannopoulos or Louis Farrakhan, use Scales?” Asked the rep. Duffy.

However, Marcus seemed to be suddenly taken aback by this question.

Marcus seemed to point out that those who are denied access to Facebook will also not be able to use the Scales. However, Facebook spokeswoman Elka Lux elaborated on Marcus’s answer in a separate comment on The Daily Beast.

“For Libra, anyone who engages in legitimate activities will be able to make deals online. Facebook will not have the right to vote, ”she told reporters.

However, at the moment there is no policy to solve this problem.

This question is relevant, given that currently there are many “controversial” people who are denied access to Facebook, but they have not committed any crimes.

If Libra on Facebook should be treated like money, they can also use Libra, like everyone else. This is the line of reasoning that the respondent Duffy used to interrogate Marcus, and we can expect this problem to continue to arise.

If Facebook decides that banned users cannot use Libra, it can open up a can of worms on the regulatory front. In the end, Facebook claims that Libra is independent of the social network, but at best the situation seems unclear.
