Nvidia removed the LHR lock in the latest 522.25 driver

It seems that the latest video driver from Nvidia version 522.25, just released with support for the new Nvidia RTX 4090 GPUs, also comes with the LHR removed, so there is no longer a need to use a miner that unlocks the full performance of the GPU for mining (if you have an LHR video card that is). One could argue that after Ethereum moved to PoS and can no longer mine, this is reason enough for this move from Nvidia to remove the hash rate limiter on their RTX 30xx series GPUs. We tested the latest video drivers on RTX 3070 Ti GPUs with LHR locking using PhoenixMiner 5.9, which does not yet support any LHR unlocking, and they are mining at 80 MH/s. Other LHR-locked GPUs should also have full speeds without the need for a dedicated unlocking miner, although we have not been able to test and confirm other GPUs at this time.

This is not a part of mining; it is the sales part that is the reason for the removal of LHR. The current lack of profit situation for most miners means that there is no need for software that involves an additional hash rate limiter such as LHR mode, as this will further reduce miners’ interest in Nvidia GPUs in the current market situation. And while Nvidia did enjoy a recent bull run with huge demand for their graphics cards, the situation at the moment is not very favorable for the company even with the launch of their new RTX 4090 GPUs. Miners are not buying the new GPUs, in fact many are not only not buying, but are actually starting to sell their RTX 30 series graphics cards on the secondary market at increasingly lower prices, as they see no point in using them for mining at the moment…

So, is Nvidia trying once again to “clean up” the crypto-mainers now that they need to get them back, buying GPUs just in time for the next crypto-bull run? They probably are, and if not, they can always say that the lack of LHR locking in the 522.25 drivers was a developer error, which will be fixed in future driver updates!
